far so good. a little crowded as you approach the dublin interchange. but only about a 15-minute drive right now out of the altamont pass. we'll have more traffic in a bit. in the meantime, back to you guys. >> search teams will be back at work this morning trying to find seven northern california men missing from the sunken fishing boat. many are from the bay area. the boat went down during a sudden storm early sunday morning in mexico's sea of cortez south of san felipe. kristy seifkin is keeping track. search off of the baja, california, coast. kristy, any word? >> reporter: you know, they continued the search all at a yesterday and by the end of the day unfortunately all they found what more debris but the good news is that conditions are still favorable. those waters are calm. conditions are warmth so there is still hope that the missing individuals snail be alismas we followed up with the u.s. coast guard who has continued to search for those individuals we have found out the identity of that one deceased passenger that is 65-year-old leslie yee a former employee of the "san

francisco chronicle." this was his first fishing trip to baja after nearly 37 years with the newspaper. >> he was my best friend. he actually successfully guided me, you know, into being a mature adult while maintaining a best friendship. >> of the seven men still missing, four are pictured here. russell bautista who is from penngrove, donald lee from san ramon, gene liong from dublin and albert mien. we spoke with gene's family and they said he is a survivor and they still have hope that the 69-year-old will return alive. >> me and him were supposed to go together. and now so i offered to go for

father's day and he went. >> reporter: leong said his father earn a purple heart in vietnam. gene loves fishing and was taking this trip to baja for the first time. now, yesterday the u.s. coast guard had sent a helicopter to assist the navy in the search. that plane returned and a second plane was sent from sacramento down to mexico to continue with that search today. and once again, those favorable conditions in terms of 80- degree temperature water, calm waters, still give us hope that the missing individuals may still be arrive. >> thank you, kristy seifkin live in the newsroom. several families here in the bay area have received phone calls with good news from their loved ones saying they made it and they're okay. among the survivors are two men from novato. a wife has been waiting by the telephone. >> he has assured me that the other face are fine but they

are just worried about russ. like we all are, all us wives r i can't imagine being in her position right now. >> that would be russ bautista from penngrove. he is one of the seven men who are still missing this morning. we will continue to monitor the search and keep the latest updates posted at cbssf.com. police are waiting to notify family they say before releasing the identity of the man killed by bart officers. according to the police chief cameras caught a partial view of sunday night's incident. part says the man shot on the civic center platform was apparently drunk and aggressive while carrying a broken bottle and knife. one of two officers initially on the scene what carrying a taser but didn't use it. starting monday, all bart police officers will be required to carry tasers. in oakland, the chief of police plans to announce upcoming changes to his department. anthony batts is going to hold a news conference to discuss a

reorganization to enhance public service. under the budget, the city will rehire 22 of the 80 police officers it laid off last year. law enforcement leaders from across the bay area are gathering this morning hoping to hold two gangs responsible for the shooting death of a baby. anser hassan joins us from east palo alto where the meeting will take place. this is a case that has really involved a lot of people emotionally. we're dealing with a 3-month- old baby. >> reporter: it has involved a lot of people. and more people will be involved. east palo alto police are sending what they are calling a clear and strong message to both the nortenos and serenos gangs that both groups will be responsible for the killing of that 3-month-old back in june. the city says they are making it a top priority to shut them down. today east palo alto police is inviting federal, state and local law enforcement officials to a day long conference. they hope to gather and share

intelligence to come up with a plan to target the groups and help gang members who want to get out. the city has been working for years to target these two groups. but the killing of the 3-month- old izack garcia has prompted the latest operation. the morning of june 5, a gunman from the norteno gang opened fire on the 3-month-old and his parents killing the 3-month- old. he thought that they were members of the opposite gang. and the police arrested a 17- year-old for the murder. jeff liu said last month that both groups will be responsible for this killing. >> police department and the community have spoken out and said that the quote, unquote collateral damage of a 3-month- old baby getting killed because of this back and forth battle between the nortenos ander is rain yoes is totally -- and serenos is totally unacceptable. >> reporter: these groups have been operated for years in the

inside the bay. mild in th valleys. cooler in the afternoon. 90s, hot inland. 80s elsewhere. 60s and 70s around the bay. coastline 60s and patchy fog. looks like more fog becoming well defined at the beaches here. a little subtropical moisture working in toward the bay area a couple of passing clouds and that's about it. but a slow cooling trend is in effect as high pressure begins to make its way out of town. this area of low pressure and the whole trough going to swing in toward the coastline so cooler weather on the way and that means more low clouds and fog in the coming days. still it will be hot in spots. 90 degrees in san jose today. about 92 morgan hill. about 86 in palo alto. you have 60s at the coastline with the patchy fog. inland valleys still boy it's going to be hot. 97 degrees in brentwood. 96 in livermore. 96 in antioch. so you get get. those temperatures still cooking in areas inland.

brothers, craig, glen and brian were all avid fishermen. their other brother brian is still missing. yesterday the coast guard sent down a c-130 airplane from sacramento to mexico to assist the navy in their search. that plane returned but another airplane is on the way right now down to mexico to continue that search and as i said, conditions are still favorable. we are hopeful that those missing men may still be alive. >> the ship i know is in 200 feet of water. are they doing anything to get down there? >> reporter: there are report that scuba divers have been enlisted to see if they can find evidence but we haven't had any updates. by the end of the day yesterday, the aerial search and the scuba search had just revealed more debris is thank you, kristy seifkin live in the newsroom. thank you. we'll continue to follow the search and keep the latest

updates on our website, cbssf.com. law enforcement leaders from the bay area are meeting today following the shooting death of a baby. anser hassan joins us live from east palo alto where that meeting will take place. anser, it looks like this is a war against gangs. >> reporter: that's right. and the city of palo alto is being very thorough about this. the tee of east palo alto police department is calling on state, federal and local law enforcements to help them crack down and shut down gang activity in their city. owe today they are holding a day long conference to help police come up with a plan to help shut down these gangs. east palo alto pd has been targeting the norteno and sereno gangs for years. the let's effort was prompted by the june -- the latest evident was prompted by the june 5 shooting of a 3-month- old baby. the family was mistaken for a sereno gang member and allegedly shot by a known norteno gang member.

acting police captain jeff liu says these are very structured groups. so speaking last month he said he wants to send a clear strong message that even if one gang member does wrong, both groups will be held responsible. >> the police department and the community have spoken out and said that the collateral damage of a 3-month-old baby getting killed because of this back and forth battle between the nortenos and serenos is totally unacceptable. >> reporter: over 100 law enforcement officials are invited today as conference members from homeland security, department of justice and the irs. the city wants the irs to look into alleged tax evasion problems by both gang members. so obviously a thorough effort by the city of east palo alto at their conference that will start later on today. >> it sounds like they are using a lot of tools that were already available to them but they have a renewed vigor

behind it? >> reporter: absolutely. it sounds like, you know, in speaking with community members and others that the gang violence is really out of control and i think the killing of a 3-month-old -- how can you mistake a 3-month-old baby as a gang member? these types of activities are really pushing the buttons of a lot of residents saying enough is enough and we need something done. >> thanks. police have identified the man shot and killed by bart officers but they are not telling us yet. they are waiting to contact his family before releasing his name. bart's deputy police chief said cameras did catch a partial rue of sun night's incident but they are not telling us what they saw. investigators say the man was drunk and being aggressive carrying a broken bottle and knife. one of two officers was carrying a taser but used the gun instead or his partner used

people who have lived in town for 15 days in the last month are eligible for one of these id cards. it would give them access to a number of services from public transportation to libraries. supporters say that people who get these cards can then open bank accounts with them. but critics say the id encourages illegal immigration. 5:39 now. this morning san francisco pd, they are hoping to find the person who swiped a mighty pricy art piece. the thief walked into the weinstein gallery on union square and stole a sketch by pablo picasso off the wall. his 1965 work "tete de femme" also about the size of a piece of paper. very small. but it's worth about $200,000. the gallery says it will and may be difficult to sell. but they hope the suspect didn't destroy it. new information emerging about a missing cyclist from berkeley, loved ones telling the "oakland tribune" that anthony michael martin had been fasting and may have weakened his physical strength and even

earthquake struck south of a little bit of shaking south of the bay area overnight. an earthquake struck hollister this morning. within five minutes there were two more quakes. they were felt in the central coast area but no damage was done. it looks like a bank of fog rolling through the golden gate but it wasn't fog that blew across phoenix. it was a dust storm. 50 miles wide, 6miles an hour. the visibility was so bad that the faa stopped flights from heading to phoenix. much better in our neck of the woods though. we may have a little fog but a lot of sunshine, right,
